On Sept. 12, more than 100 community members, including CSI families, neighbors, elected officials, District staff, and committee representatives gathered to celebrate the milestone of opening the district's newest school.

"CSI is a result of extensive community involvement," said Superintendent Shelly Viramontez. "It began in the Spring of 2016, when the Board charged the District with creating a new Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade option for families. Today, the families who enrolled their children in CSI are our partners in creating this school of the future."

The school opened in August 22, 2018, with 295 students in grades TK through 4th, with a focus on education through the design thinking process. It will grow to about 850 preschool through 8th students over the next few years.

There are more renovations planned for the campus. An updated map showing the phases is available on the CSI website.

Missing just two days a month means a child misses 10% of the school year. That's 10% less learning, smiling, growing, and achieving.

September is Attendance Awareness month all over the country.
Why? Studies about school attendance show that “showing up” makes a difference:
· Positive school attendance supports students’ academic and social growth.
· Attending school regularly helps students feel better about school and themselves.
· Learning good work habits early will support their success in life.
At CUSD, we value our parent and community partnerships. Positive school attendance is a joint effort of home and school.
Together, we make a difference for our students. We ask that all families join us in helping students form the good attendance habits—being present each day and on time—that will help them succeed in school and beyond.
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

I am excited to announce "Profile of a Graduate," Campbell Union School District’s strategic focus for the 2018-19 school year and beyond. The video linked to this article offers more explanation.

Profile of a Graduate is part of our district’s Strategic Plan to reinvent the way we educate and inspire today's learners, and one of the four goals outlined in our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). It calls upon individuals—students and the adults who support them—to be Self-Directed, Innovative, a Critical Thinker, Collaborative, and Empathetic.

Developing these five competencies is our commitment to preparing ALL students for a yet-to-be-defined workplace. Their future depends on it.

As our partner and your child’s advocate, you are an important part of that mission. You will be seeing more about the Profile of a Graduate throughout the school year as we, together, continue the vital work of educating students to their highest potential.

Karen, who hopes to work for NASA one day, joined dozens of middle school students who took part in the Zero Robotics International Space Station (ISS) Finals with the astronauts last Friday, August 10th. Campbell Union School District middle schoolers competed in the Zero Robotics summer program and wrote code for moving mini satellites in zero gravity.

Zero Robotics Middle School Summer Program introduces students to computer programming, robotics, and space engineering, and provides hands-on experience with programming SPHERE (Synchronized, Position, Hold, Engage, Reorient, Experimental Satellites). At the culminating event, 12 regional teams from around the globe watched live as astronauts aboard the International Space Station judged their team’s code in zero gravity.

This is the second year that Campbell Union School District summer program students have participated in Zero Robotics, thanks to the grant-funded After School Education Safety (ASES) program operated by our CUSD Extensions Department.

Campbell Union School District students were featured in a National Geographic short film about it, called Zero Gravity.

For more about Zero Robotics, visit their website.

This week, we are emailing parents/guardians with information about the digital Back-to-School “packet” that will help make for a smooth and safe start of the year for their students.

FIRST, THE OFFICIAL FORMS...

Using the email address provided by parents/guardians, we are sending a message with link(s) by which they may:
