Engineering Up: The Great 8th Grade Hat Challenge

Our 8th-grade scientists hit the ground running with their very first hands-on challenge of the year!

Given just one class period and a bag of miscellaneous materials, students put the Engineering Design Process to the test: defining the goal, brainstorming ideas, planning a structure, and building the tallest hat possible. The real magic happened during the testing and iterating phases, as teams quickly adapted their designs to defy gravity and keep their towers standing.
